The project is expected to commence in the third quarter of the current financial year, with a phased approach to minimise disruption to daily life. The municipality acknowledges the long-standing concerns raised by residents regarding potholes, uneven surfaces, and inadequate drainage, which have been exacerbated by recent heavy rainfall. Mr. Sipho Dlamini, the Municipal Manager, stated, "We understand the frustration of our community. This plan is a direct response to their legitimate concerns and represents our commitment to providing safe and reliable infrastructure. We have allocated a substantial budget towards this project, and we are confident that the upgrades will significantly improve the quality of life for all Tzaneen residents." The proposed upgrades will include extensive resurfacing, patching, and in some areas, complete reconstruction of road sections. Furthermore, attention will be given to improving stormwater drainage systems to prevent future damage and enhance road longevity. Ms. Thandiwe Nkosi, a long-time resident of Nkowankowa, expressed cautious optimism. "We have seen promises before, but the roads in our area are truly terrible. If they can fix the potholes and make it safer for our children to walk to school, that would be a huge relief." The municipality will be engaging with local contractors and suppliers where possible, aiming to stimulate the local economy and create employment opportunities during the project's duration.
